Become a Monthly Donor

EALT needs support every day of the year. Why not become a continuing supporter with automatic monthly withdrawals?

  • Monthly donations can be set up through a Canadian chequing account, or through Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.
  • If your employer operates a payroll giving program, you can make a donation to EALT directly from your salary.

Any donation you make is used effectively to protect our land and protect this legacy for Edmonton and Area. Thank you in advance!

Many people feel they are not able to give as much support as they would like to during their lifetime. By including EALT in your will, you can support our work and help to protect our land and create a conservation legacy for this region.

When we say we protect in perpetuity, we mean it! EALT has Endowment Funds with the Edmonton Community Foundation for land stewardship, covenants, and ongoing operating costs. EALT also has a Capital Fund: – money in this fund is targeted to land acquisition.

It has been calculated that if 5% of us donated 5% of our estates to charity, there would be no need to fundraise. But remember that no bequest is too little.

You may also simply offer the residue of your estate to EALT, that is, any funds that remain after all bills have been settled and inheritances have been allocated. This allows all obligations to be met with the remainder going to support EALT’s work. We encourage donors to consult with their financial planner and/or attorney for appropriate wording and to discuss their decision with their family.

Don’t forget to request donations to EALT, in lieu of flowers for funerals or memorial services.

Donate Securities, Life Insurance, Annuities or RRSP's

If you own publicly traded securities or mutual funds that have increased in value, you may want to consider donating the securities directly to EALT. This type of gift can minimize the capital gains taxes that you have to pay on those securities. Should you decide to make a gift of securities to EALT, please fill in our Securities Transfer Form Security Transfer Form.
Or you can give them online through Canada Helps.

A life insurance policy can offer a simple way to support EALT, especially if your family no longer needs life insurance for financial security after your death. You could choose to make EALT the beneficiary of a new policy. Your payments for the new policy will be eligible for tax credit. Another option is to make EALT the owner of an existing policy, allowing you an immediate tax benefit.

Sustaining Supporter Form

EALT maintains funds with The Edmonton Community Foundation. Donors may choose any of all of the three funds held by the Edmonton Community Foundation to support the activities and operations of EALT.

1. Capital Fund that will assist with land acquisition.
The other two funds held by the Edmonton Community Foundation on our behalf are permanent endowment funds. Gifts to these funds are not spent. They are invested and through their earnings, provide ongoing support to EALT for:

2. Stewardship (monitoring and maintenance of our properties)

3. Operations
• Assessing potential lands for their ecological value and possible risks
• Paying for professional services to conduct CRA-required “fair market value” appraisals and audits, so as to issue charitable receipts for donated land
• Developing Baseline Inventories of new lands, to provide the information needed to create stewardship plans
• Helping EALT work with schools and other groups to provide meaningful educational encounters with nature, and engender a deeper understanding and appreciation of nature’s benefits and values
• Creating and maintaining partnerships with other like-minded organizations
• Educating and seeking partnerships with municipalities in the capital region
• Managing the many volunteers that contribute to the success of our conservation efforts

Those interested in making donations to any of these funds may contact us by phone (780) 483–7578, or may directly contact the Donor Services Staff of the Edmonton Community Foundation.

Create a Named Endowment Fund - Give in the Name of Others

Gift Ecologically Significant Property

EALT accepts gifts of ecologically significant lands, which we will protect in perpetuity.

You can also provide lasting conservation through planned giving, which enables you to support EALT’s work while providing yourself with financial benefits. If you have land that you would like to protect by donating it, but need to receive income during your lifetime, you might use a charitable gift annuity. In a charitable gift annuity, you agree to transfer certain property to a land trust, and the land trust agrees to make regular annuity payments to one or two beneficiaries you specify for life. Your gift of land usually qualifies for a charitable income tax deduction at the time of the gift, based on the value of the land less the expected value of the annuity payments.

Alternatively, if you have land you would like to donate, but want to continue living there, you may want to consider a life estate. A life estate grants you the lifetime right to live on your donated property, but you receive tax benefits immediately, and the land trust is assured of future income to fund conservation projects.

You may also donate a Conservation Easement on all, or parts of your property.

Conservation easements are a tool to allow you to permanently protect natural and cultural features of private land, without giving up ownership or use, while EALT continues conservation on these lands in perpetuity. Landowners are usually eligible for tax benefits when they donate conservation easements on ecologically valuable land.

Contact us if you wish to discuss donations of ecologically significant lands, by email pamwight <at> ealt.ca or phone at: 780 483–7578.

Donate any category of land

In addition, EALT accepts lands without ecologically significant values. Such lands may be used for a revenue stream, or may be sold to raise funds towards purchase of more ecologically significant properties. These assets are called trade lands. Please contact us if you wish to contribute by gift of property.

*We encourage you to seek the advice of a professional when making charitable giving, tax, will and estate, financial and/or insurance decisions.
