For our 10th anniversary we have been busy celebrating – this time, we wanted to include kids especially! Last month we held an online giveaway of our Nature Kits for Kids. We asked teachers and leaders from various groups working with kids to enter and tell us what they or their class’s favourite Canadian animals were, and we randomly drew the winners.
Our Nature Kit for Kids is designed to get kids out and interacting with nature, which many people find more and more difficult. The kits contains binoculars and identification books to learn about birds, a pond net, bug jar, and magnifying glass to learn about bugs and other pond critters, as well as guides for identifying butterflies, plants, and a notebook to write it all down.
Although it didn’t affect the winners, it was a close call of what the favourite animal of the class was – Beaver just squeezed past Moose by a single vote! Sorry môswa! môswa our moose mascot visits our Conservation Lands with us, and you can read about him here.
After the Nature Kit giveaway contest ended, we delivered the Nature Kits to schools across the city, and got to meet some very excited kids and teachers! We even lucked out to visit a couple schools on crazy hair day, so we got to see some cool “do’s”. Kids were so excited, and some were disappointed that they had to wait a few days to open it up, and go out and try it out in nature. We hope they get the chance to be inspired out in nature soon!
