In 2013, Halina Boisvert called the Edmonton and Area Land Trust and expressed her wish to donate her 80 acre parcel of land near Morinville, Alberta. This land, which was cared for by her husband and was a nature retreat for their family, is now open to the public for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks to a grant from Mountain Equipment Co-op and many hours of heavy lifting by our volunteers, we created a 1.5 km trail loop through this peaceful aspen poplar forest. In addition to the easy to walk trail, MEC funds also helped make this property more accessible in general, by installing a gate way entry at the property entrance for foot traffic, and installing several wayfinding and other signs to help orient visitors at the property.
We’re also very grateful to The Lawnmower Hospital for giving us a significant discount on a Billy Goat brush cutter that we used to get the trails and the yard mowed and easy to walk through. This mower will be crucial for many years to come, to maintain these trails so they can be enjoyed by members of our community.
Check out our page on the Boisvert’s GreenWoods Conservation Lands, including directions on how to get there and a map of our new trails. We hope you enjoy your visit!
