Outdoor Classroom: The Larch Sanctuary

A group of students from the Kings University visited the Larch Sanctuary to get a first hand look at EALT's conservation efforts in Edmonton. The students braved the pouring rain and muddy trails to get a look at Edmonton's only Oxbow lake and have the chance to experience the natural beauty surrounding the Whitemud Creek. The students learned about what land conservation is and the importance of conserving land in a city where urban development is constantly threatening important natural areas. The Larch Sanctuary is owned by the City of Edmonton and EALT successfully secured a conservation easement for the land earlier this year.

To make up for the less than stellar weather, we were surprised with a flock of sandhill cranes flying overhead - a rare and welcome experience!!
