Sundew Spruce-Up

Sundew Conservation Land is a relatively recent addition to the list of EALT lands, and due to its natural condition, its stewardship needs are minimal. It is dominated by a coniferous fen, and as such, doesn’t have a strong presence of invasive plants. Rather than trails, we use the two existing cutlines to access the property.

However, even though this property retains its wild essence, there are still leftover impacts from prior human activity in the form of junk that should be removed. Much of it is metal garbage, and it includes a section of decrepit barbed wire fence on the east boundary of the property. Since the fence is no longer needed, it only serves as a safety hazard to wildlife, and we’d like to avoid that on our lands.

We will meet at Sundew at 10:00 am. Please note that there is only roadside parking at this land.

Anticipate a generally high level of physical exertion for this event. Activities will include:

  • Roughly 4 km of walking over wet and uneven terrain

  • Unearthing garbage from the forest floor

  • Carrying garbage out of the land

  • Carrying personal supplies for the day (water, layers, snacks, etc.) in your backpack
