Coates is a unique EALT land featuring a steep valley with winding creek, frequented by many types of wildlife. It offers amazing views from a historic creekbed, where dinosaurs once walked. This land features a steep climb down to Willow Creek, which can be easily crossed to enjoy an old-growth forest on the other side of the bank.
View from Willow Creek at Coates.
EALT maintains 30 nest boxes at this land, and now is the time of year to prepare them for next year’s occupants. In addition to songbirds, we also have some owl boxes to clean this year, which require a ladder to reach.
We will meet at the land at 10:00 am, and end by 2:30 pm.
Please anticipate a generally high level of physical exertion for this event. Activities will include:
Roughly 4 km of walking over mowed grass trails, including some bushwhacking. Please note the trail is quite steep and feature tall stairs.
Reaching up to nest boxes to scrape out contents.
Carrying cleaning supplies for the nest boxes (including a ladder)
Carrying personal supplies for the day (water, layers, snacks, etc.) in your backpack
