Coates is a unique EALT land featuring a steep valley with winding creek, frequented by many types of wildlife. It offers amazing views from a historic creekbed, where dinosaurs once walked. Willow Creek runs through the property, and currently, there’s a lot of tansy that has made its way onto the creekbed and surrounding banks.
It’s important to address the tansy now while the creek water level is low, because when it rises again, the seeds from the existing tansy will be transported downstream. The more we pull, the more we prevent from spreading!
We will meet at Coates promptly at 9:30 AM, and leave the site by 3:00 PM. Wear appropriate footwear and long pants. Bring a lunch, water and a camera or binoculars to check out our feathered friends in the area. Tools and gloves will be provided. Additional information will be sent to you several days in advance of the event.
Accessibility:
This event will involve walking down and back up a steep slope with tall stairs. Due to the terrain, this event will involve a generally high level of physical activity. Volunteers should also be prepared for:
Kneeling and bending to pull plants
Carrying supplies needed for the day
Carrying personal supplies for the day (water, layers, snacks, etc.) in your backpack
Other notes:
Stewardship events are weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. If the temperature is forecasted to be 30 degrees or above, we may cancel the event.
This land has very poor cell reception in the valley where we’ll be spending most of the day. EALT Staff will have an emergency communication device on hand.
If you need to cancel, please do so through SignUp.com or inform us as soon as possible. Please arrive on time.
