Seeds as Stewardship

  • Edmonton & Area Land Trust #101, 10471 - 178 Street Northwest Edmonton, AB, T5S 1R5 (map)

Thank you to everyone who helped with building and planting the Medicine Garden last year!

This year we invite volunteers to help nurse seeds into sprouts and bring them to plant at the Medicine Garden!

This event will be held in partnership with The AUUC Youth Council

Tasks

We will meet at the downtown Ukrainian Centre (11018 97 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 2N1) at 11:00 AM and leave at 2:00 PM.

Volunteers will clean and process Native Plant Seeds and they will have 2 options:

  • 1. Fridge stratification and starting the seeds indoors in the spring

  • 2. Preparing a stratification chamber at the workshop which will involve planting the seeds in soil in a container and placing them outdoors.

Volunteers will also have the chance to grow seeds for the Ukrainian Center Kohkom Baba Garden: including medicine/native plant seeds and food garden seeds!

Volunteers will nurse these seeds and return them to us as sprouted plants in June to plant in the Medicine Garden.

Volunteers may keep some sprouted seedlings for their themselves as well.
